The CRSU cares for patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics, and is equipped with telemetry. We are open Monday through Friday for business day visits, but can accommodate evening or weekend studies upon request.
The CRSU is approved for use for Phase I through IV studies. It has been designated as a Phase I and II approved site by the Western IRB, eliminating the need for a site-specific review.
CRS Nursing staff specializes in caring for patients in research protocols and offers in-depth knowledge of conducting clinical research. We offer 24-hour staffing (on the CRSU or at another site), with expertise in a wide variety of diseases and populations, including newborns, geriatrics, ambulatory care, and acute care. For acute medical emergencies, all nurses have been trained in emergency resuscitation and life-sustaining techniques. Our nurses are skilled in a wide variety of services, including phlebotomy, I.V. therapy, chemotherapy, and telemetry monitoring. Many are certified as Clinical Research Professionals through the Society of Clinical Research Associates, and all are trained in GCP and CITI.
CRS nurses are trained in the care of research participants, with an emphasis on the importance of following each protocol and completing appropriate study documentation. They are active in both research educational activities and general VCU Health nursing activities, such as the VCU Health Nursing Research Council.
