Michael Tran is an applications analyst for the Biomedical Informatics Core, part of the VCU Center for Clinical and Translational Research. The Biomedical Informatics Core (BIC) provides an infrastructure that allows researchers at VCU access to clinical data and improved data management tools.
Mike is the REDCap administrator for VCU. REDCap is a Web-based electronic data capture tool that is used to build and manage online surveys and databases.
In addition to managing the REDCap application, Mike is also a programmer. He is the lead developer for the Research Portal, a web application that provides researchers with information about the resources available to them and information about the data in the clinical data warehouse. The research portal integrates and hosts many research projects, but it also serves as a support platform for all BIC related infrastructure and support.
Mike has been with VCU for five years — three at VCU Health System and two with the CCTR.
With bachelor degrees in information technology and business administration (both from VCU), Mike’s goal is to obtain a master’s degree in the near future. He also has a passion for computer programming, software development and reading.
