Goals & Objectives

  1. Become a leader in the synthesis and facilitation of clinical and translational research.
    • Remove data analysis barriers by providing biomedical informatics services and tools to facilitate the translation of data to knowledge to practice.
    • Facilitate translation of informatics tools, such as natural language processing and streaming data analysis, into clinical research and practice.
    • Expand the scope of VCUs clinical trials by providing effective and efficient solutions for clinical trial recruitment and management.
    • Facilitate research data capture and exploration by providing integrative, user-friendly self-service informatics tools.
    • Develop self-evaluation procedures and automated tools to aid in achieving our vision and goals.
  2. Be recognized as VCU’s source for clinical and translational informatics collaboration, education, and training.
    • Become VCU’s hub for interdisciplinary collaboration and team science through development and implementation of synergistic programs and technologies.
    • Provide educational seminars and workshops to introduce investigators and students to biomedical informatics methods, techniques and applications in a clinical context.
    • Tailor educational materials to the evolving informatics needs of the VCU community through periodic evaluations and surveys.
    • Provide comprehensive training for self-service informatics tools to enable users to efficiently utilize the tools in research.
  3. Enhance VCU’s Clinical Research Management Systems and Support Services.
    • Implement automated processes to ensure accurate clinical research billing and clinical research cost recovery.
    • Develop and maintain a database of clinical research to aid in the accurate tracking of research trial participants.
    • Establish protocols to enhance the quality and timeliness of research participant data management.
  4. Build one data repository, the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), to leverage all VCU data for transformative research, analysis and practice.
    • Work with the chosen vendor to design, build and implement the EDW.
    • Complete design and implementation of EDW.
    • Ensure interoperability of digital assets through development of robust data governance and metadata standards.
    • Establish protocols, collaborations, and develop tools to ensure semantic harmonization of all incorporated data elements.
    • Develop self-service analytics, user-friendly dashboards and reporting tools in support of precision medicine, clinical and translational research, and regulatory and operational requirements
